"Genes and Machines" is the latest project from the mind of Leon Gruenbaum. The group explores the interplay between man and machine, performing music which ranges from dreamy/ambient to rock/funk, etc., with a focus on unusual and meticulously crafted electronic sounds. In the full version all parts are performed live.

The group showcases Leon Gruenbaum's keyboard invention, the samchillian, and Ava Farber joins with Mr. Gruenbaum on both vocals, keyboards and bass. in the current configuration Shawn Banks joins on acoustic percussion.

In the full version, there are two drummers, Gintas J. and Deantoni Parks (trading off on electronic and acoustic kits) who sit back to back facing the wings of the stage.

While there are songs with traditional structure, much of the material is fairly abstract, consisting of repeating sounds and parts. A special lighting system under Mr. Gruenbaum's control cues members of the band in and out, which gives great variation to the material night to night.

In December, 2008, the group debuted at John Zorn's club "The Stone" with these musicians:

Leon Gruenbaum: samchillian, vocals, keyboards, clarinet
Ava Farber: vocals, keyboards
Gintas J.: acoustic/electronic drums
Eric Johnson: acoustic/electronic drums
